A day of Tokyo Disneyland (food)

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

To sum up our day at Tokyo Disneyland, we'd have to show you what we ate. Disney parks pride themselves on truly next-level foods that you might see visitors scarfing down in between riding Splash Mountain and meeting Mickey Mouse.

And although each park serves items unique to its menu, every Disney dish is Instagrammable. That's how we ended up writing about food. Our camera rolls were as full with food as our bellies!

Here's what was on the menu:

Mickey Glove Chicken Sandwich & Mickey Pizza.

Unlike some hardcore Disney fans, we didn't map out our Mickey-shaped meals (no time!) but rather ate whatever was around at the moment. To avoid a major meal-time meltdown, however, we did find ourselves chowing down in Toontown. Huey, Dewey & Louie's Good Time Cafe serves classic counter-service and kid-friendly dishes–but with a Disney twist.

Our daughter ended up eating the ONE Disney-less dish on the table (the fries!). But we enjoyed every morsel of the Mickey-shaped treats. The grilled chicken sandwich comes on a steamed Chinese bun shaped like Mickey's classic gloves, while the cheese pizza is made with a corn crust. Both dishes can only be found at Tokyo Disney parks.

Popcorn with Collectible Bucket.

After soaring through Tokyo skies on Dumbo's back, it only made sense to commemorate the flight with a Dumbo-shaped bucket full of popcorn. The popcorn buckets have become a highly sought-after souvenir for Disney enthusiasts; just as much as the exotic popcorn flavors. We did wonder how we'd pack the Dumbo bucket back–but as with all vacations, we splurged on the souvenir while scarfing down curry-flavored popcorn.

Purple Sweet Potato Tipo Torta.

While still popping popcorn into our mouths, what we thought was a churro cart caught our attention. Turns out, it was a tipo torta cart. What's a tipo torta? We have no idea, but it was purple sweet potato flavor. Our taste buds couldn't resist. Upon first bite, a tipo torta is just as flavorful but not as doughy as a classic churro. It's solid, more on the flakey side and stuffed with a warm gooey filling.

Purple sweet potato flavor, unique to Tokyo Disney parks during this time of year, is a classic autumn ingredient in Japan that tastes a lot like yams. You'll find it in all sorts of snacks and drinks during this time of year. It's also really popular back home in Hawaii, which explains why we went back for more.

Maple Pumpkin Churro.

By the end of the day, we got our classic chewy churro fix. Like the purple sweet potato flavor, maple pumpkin churros are excellent autumn snacks that many can't resist. While the bright orange sticks stand out wherever you go, the pumpkin flavor didn't. It gets a bit drowned out by the maple syrup flavor; still really tasty overall, but Noah is partial to pumpkin.

If you look from the top down, the churro is Mickey-shaped. It's a subtle feature special to churros from Tokyo Disneyland.
