Aloun Farms's Pumpkin Festival draws hundreds to its 3,000-acre property in Ewa every year. From picking pumpkins and sunflowers to riding ponies and kiddie coasters, the festival has something for everyone.
This was our first time checking out the festival. We ate all sorts of treats, walked it off in the fields and then cooled down in the shade while the kids rode on the kiddie rides. It was fun to watch Liv walk through the sunflower field; this time last year, we were propping her up for a pumpkin pic at the Waimanalo Country Farms. She was just learning to sit up!
While we left that day with pumpkins and sunflowers, we also left with awesome family memories and some tips to share:
Arrive early. Wear sunscreen and bring an umbrella or hat. This part of the island is usually dry and hot year-round. After an hour in the hot sun, we were ready to go home. That was just enough time to eat, check out the pumpkins and sunflowers and ride a few rides.
Bring cash. They don't take credit cards or checks, so bring cash to buy fresh produce and snacks. You'll also need to buy tickets for the rides. But hayrides are free!
Sun protection. As with any outdoor event, wear sunscreen and bring an umbrella or hat. This part of the island is usually hot year-round.
