BOOK QUIVER - Ocean-inspired children's books

Updated: Aug 26, 2020

When Hawaii went into its first COVID-19 lockdown, arts, crafts, pillow forts and snacks helped pass the time indoors. But there's only so many cookies you can bake and arts you can craft before delirium starts to set in. Trips to the beach and playground were out of the question, so we took to books to teleport us to new and exciting places instead.

That's how we connected with some really rad authors from all over the world. Their children's books featured characters just as rad and who lived ocean-inspired lifestyles, like us (pre-lockdown). But what sets these books apart from others on our bookshelf is their ability to keep our toddler engaged with every turn of the page.

From singing along to "The Ocean, Sea and Me" to surfing with little Mop in "Mop Rides the Waves of Life," our daughter discovered the true stoke of reading. She especially loves seeing how Little Millie and Queenie Wahine, from the Tribe of Daughters series, overcame their fears by trying new things. The coloring pages at the end of each book were added bonuses.

We highly recommend these books for little readers of all ages. They're great additions to any bookshelf quiver, whether you surf or not. Each offers something unique, like a fun singalong, a lesson in mindfulness and a way for readers to finish the book's ending. Check out our reviews below to hear more about them and how you can snag a copy.
