You don't need to travel across the world to find amazing waves. Surf at home can be equally as epic once you change your mindset; or more like, accept the fact that a worldwide pandemic paused all plans for future travel. With places seeing influxes in COVID cases and quarantine regulations taking effect, exploring has become more a risk than a pleasure.
But on a positive note, the desire to wander remains. It's something you can do right in your own backyard, so to speak, or wherever you live. For a surfer, it's about spending more time at home breaks and appreciating what they have to offer. It's also about stepping outside of what's comfortable and exploring new spots. That might even mean trying an old spot with a new board.
We've been having a lot of fun frequenting a few south shore spots on the island. They're breaks we go to year-round, but during the summers, we're usually traveling. This summer, we have been able to experience these breaks in all of their summer swell glory. Surfing them at the peak of swells, and also in between swells, has been the highlights so far.
