Hyped on this Hollywood view

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

Who knew that–hidden under Hollywood's glitz and glam–a mellow family-friendly park is where you'll find the best views of that iconic sign?

Lake Hollywood Park, located right beneath the sign, swaps out the celebrity-filled craze with a Sunday-afternoon kind of calm. Picnics, puppies and a playgrounds sum up this park–which is enjoyed by a mix of locals and tourists.

The park is not too far from the popular Griffith Observatory; so popular that we couldn’t find parking when we braved the attraction prior. Thankfully, we continued our drive in search of cool vistas–until we accidentally found this gem at the foothills of the Hollywood sign.

After dealing with the traffic and crowds at Griffith, we welcomed the easy and free parking here.

We also welcomed the space; a wide grassy field set the backdrop for those classic jump-shot and handstand photos, while a paved sidewalk going up the hill made it easy to get different vantage points of the L.A. landmark. The park was also a nice respite from the packed sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard, flooded with tourists.

When we look back at photos, we love that most of our shots below the sign include Liv taking off in full sprint toward the playground. She spotted it as soon as we parked. It was really nice to find a playground in Hollywood, especially since Liv spent most of the morning stuck in the stroller.

The fenced-in playground includes separate areas for big and small kids; it even has a few shaded picnic tables for Mom and Dad to chill. We were happy to end our day exploring one of the quieter sides of Hollywood, while enjoying the most beautiful sunset.
