It’s like Disneyland! But instead of flying over Neverland on Peter Pan’s ship, we soared over the bright white terrain of the Rocky’s–by way of a similar vessel.
Most ski resorts allow guests to ride the lift for free with babies. Liv enjoyed the nippy June air, as we ascended Colorado’s Arapahoe Basin–decorated with snow-covered pine trees and pale blue skies.
Below, although not Mickey or Minnie, Liv got a kick out of the characters racing down the slopes. They dressed in silly costumes and beach attire, as part of the fun every summer ski season. It’s sometimes warm enough for them to ski down in bikinis!
Getting on and off the lift with a toddler felt almost as embarrassing as Alyssa's dismount from the lift with a snowboard for the first time (OK, maybe every time). But more of a “cute” kind of embarrassing than an unflattering one. The operator stop the lift whenever mom and baby board. A wave of awwwww’s slowly makes its way down the line of snow-goers; now would definitely not be the time for any epic mount/dismounts.
Although we didn’t wear Liv with a carrier (she doesn’t care for it), you could do this as a way to secure your baby on the ride. The lifts don’t have seatbelts but rather, a lap bar in front. It can be easy for anyone to slip out, if they are not holding on. That's a long way down. We held our daughter in the middle of us for the short ride up.
At the top, the warmth of a lodge and hot cocoa greeted us for a respite. Noah and his brother continued upward on the lift, while the rest of us, Mamas, rode the lift back down.
Overall, we really enjoyed our day at A-Basin. It’s not only kid-friendly but also baby-friendly. Liv got to run around a small indoor play area in addition to ride up the slope. Next time, she’ll be old enough to go to ski school!
