What's in our beach cooler?

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

A day full of sun and surf calls for a cooler just as full. Having snacks and drinks on hand not only replenish energy levels in between sessions but also keep the whole fam happy in and out of the water.

So what's in our cooler? Mostly things that are portable and easy to eat by hand. It's likely those post-surf snacks come with a side of sand, too. That's all thanks to our eager toddler, who loves digging around in the cooler as much as she loves digging in the sand.

And as much as we try avoiding processed flours and added sugars, we're not ashamed to admit that the chilled chocolate bar at the bottom of the cooler is the real reason for paddling in. We love the organic good-for-you stuff but can't honestly say we're health food junkies either.

For us, it's mostly about convenience. Prepping beach snacks should be quick and not involve a lot of time in the kitchen. We'd much rather spend that time at the beach. If we have to spend a little extra for healthy prepackaged or pre-made snacks, then we're all about it–if it means easily tossing them into the cooler on our way out the door.

To keep hydrated, we always have water and fresh smoothies on tap. The smoothies are usually already made from the night before–packed with protein and tons of nutrients.

Fresh fruits fill our cooler, too. From frozen grapes to sliced apples, they're refreshing and easy for toddlers to snack on by themselves. Fruit and veggie pouches are also great. Toddlers slurp those right up.

When it comes to the packaged stuff, we'll throw in crackers, trail mix and granola bars. Lunchables, or a natural alternative, is also a favorite; just as much as peanut butter jelly sandwiches when we're feeling extra classy.

What's in your cooler bag?
